This time of year is especially difficult to lose weight. As my husband states, "A person is like a bear. During the fall and winter, they feel the need to pack it on and take it easy. It's a natural feeling. You have to try to overcome it."
So, my question to everyone (competing or not) - How do you overcome the natural feeling and get to the point that you are able to eat healthy and exercise regularly?
I will admit to struggling with this. I have been working on this journey since early summer. I did great throughout the warm months. And right now, I'm happy with the fact that I've been able to maintain what I've already accomplished. But I want more... And I'm having a hard time finding a way to achieve that desire.
Please share your ideas (either comments or a new post). I'd really like some ideas and help!
Well part of my problem is exercise. I know if I could just find a way it would be fine. It's cold outside so I can't run/walk, it's also dark when I actually have the time. I can't afford a gym membership so there goes that idea. I've tried exercise videos but the boys climb on my the WHOLE time! It's annoying. So I guess I need to start walking up and down my stairs!!??
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way Syndy! It's really hard to get the exercise in. One thing I do occasionally is dance with the girls. They love it and they are 3 so they don't care that I really stink. I think I feel like it needs to be some sort of formal thing but really it doesn't. I know I could do a few sit ups here, some stretching there and so on, and it would make a difference. But I rarely think about it during the day. I also like the checking things off my list feeling (even if just a mental list) and when its a little bit here and little bit there it never gets checked off my list.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Syndy and Amy... This is the same boat I'm in... Too cold to go outside and not enough money for a gym membership. Maybe we should form our own gym? Haha! I'd offer to come hang out with the boys while you exercised Syndy, but I can't do that every day with the cost of gas. :( I like the dancing idea, Amy.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I've been trying to find ways to make the housework aerobic (much to my demise). It's easy to jump around or dance when you are vacuuming, but it's harder (and sillier) to dance when you are doing the dishes.
I do have two exercise videos that I've been using and I enjoy them. I don't have any monkeys in my house (Syndy), at least, not during the day. But even over time, those get boring because it is the same day in/day out.
Does anyone do a fitness routine on a treadmill or anything like that?
I do have a treadmill. It is easier to walk outside because it seems like you have to walk alot longer on a treadmill to reach a mile.
DeleteI am now back from my vacation. I am trying to get back into the swing of things. It is so funny that you mentioned bear. I always said I feel I am part bear because all I want to do in the winter is eat and sleep. It is so much easier to lose weight in the warm weather!
ReplyDeleteI do have exercise tapes and a fitness Wii that I need to start doing. Some days it is so hard to motivate myself to do them. Does anybody have any motivations ideas?
