Getting Started
I hope no one minds that I'm posting on here. I figure if they give me access to posting then it's fair game! I know it's like week 3 or something but I'm still "getting started"! I'm having a hard time getting motivated to exercise. So what are some of everyone else's exercise plans? What works best for a busy schedule and little kids running around? Are your plans changing since the weather has cooled down a bit?
I've started walking the mall for about an hour 3 times a week. If anyone would like to join me I walk on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:40 to about 1:40. I'm hoping to start a workout at home on the off days too.

Changing seasons...changing eating habits?
The last week or so have brought some cooler temps, especially at night. I love having my window cracked and waking up to the crisp fall weather while I'm snuggly under my covers. However, with the changing weather, I'm finding that my eating habits and the foods that I'm "craving" are changing.
Since I've started focusing on my eating habits, I've really used vegetables a lot and found ways to increase my nutrition while maintaining my calories. And I've been able to feel full by eating foods that meet those requirements. However, with the cooler temperaturs, I'm finding that I am wanting more "comfy" foods and not so much on the veggies... It's a dilemma. So far, I've stayed within the calorie level that I've wanted to be, but it's a struggle every day. Have any of you found that you are going through this or something similar?
I'm going to have to start searching out soups, stews, and good, healthy, warm food recipes. If you have any to share, please post them. I've found that I'm a fan of lentils, black beans, and other low-calorie, filling foods. In some ways, it's easier to cook. But I'm also the type of cook who just throws things into a pot and makes it work. So, my soup recipes never turn out the same, even if I use the same basic ingredients. And how do you count calories when it's "a handful of this, and a pinch of that?"
I did read somewhere that Mother Nature has it planned just right. As the weather becomes colder outside, the citrus and high Vitamin C type foods are coming into season, which will help fight colds and the "bugs" that often come. So, maybe I'll have to increase my orange intake...
Are any of you finding a change in your eating habits? What are some of the foods that you are craving and/or eating right now? Are you struggling, or have you found some solutions? I'd love to hear from anyone who has some great thoughts!

first week down
So how was everyone's first week? I have been very excited, but still getting a slow start -- which is okay! Right? The tip of the day (from the South Beach Diet site):
I can't wait to see all of the stats!
One way to help get your mind out of temptation mode is to give it something else to think about. When a craving for unhealthy foods occurs, immediately drink a big glass of water or brush your teeth. This seemingly random action can stop unhealthy cravings in their tracks.

Lentil Tacos/Taco Salad
Okay, here's a great recipe that I "borrowed" from Deb Thayn (thanks Deb!) after Allena informed me that her tacos were better than mine.
1 cup lentils
1 package taco seasoning
Tortillas
Taco fixings
Cook lentils in water and taco seasoning. You use 2x the water for the amount of lentils. You can also add more water as needed until the cooking is complete. Cook on medium low heat. Serve in tortilla with taco fixings as preferred.
Because I'm a bread-aholic, I decided to adjust this recipe to make a taco salad instead of using the tortillas. So, here's my recipe for a taco salad:
3 cups lettuce (cut/torn)
1 cup tomatoes
1/4 cup shredded cheese (a luxury item)
1/4 cup Corn & Black Bean Salsa
2 tbsp lite sour cream
1/3 cup lentil taco mix
Calories: 299
It's a very filling salad! Enjoy!!!

Introductions
I am so excited for this to start and hope that this will be motivating for all of us to get healthy!!! I thought it would be really nice for everyone to introduce themselves and tell us anything you want about yourselves -- including your frustrations with maintaining a lifestyle of nutritious eating and regular exercise -- because hopefully we can help each other over some of the road blocks that we face.
My name is Mary and I have never been what you might call, um, thin. But I have had some weight loss success in the past, so I am hoping to channel some of that inner drive to do it again this time. I haven't gotten to my ideal weight for several years and still have some of my favorite skirts waiting patiently for me in the closet. I didn't get to them this summer, but hopefully I'll be able to take some of them on a trip this winter! I am planning on following the South Beach diet, but also throw in a little Weight Watchers for accountability and portion control. If I come across some yummy recipes I'll try to share them on here for everyone else.
Good luck!
